Nap over. Pizza in Oven

I really hate that time after you put a pizza in the oven, where you're waiting for it to be ready so you can put it in your mouth. The problem with "pizza limbo" (as I believe is the technical term for this time period) is that if you start doing something (like writing in your blog for example) you're bound to either lose track of time, and the pizza will end up burnt, or forget about the pizza entirely, and it will be cremated.

2 new worries have started since the whole shoes thing, and I don't know how much attention I should pay them - firstly there's a little orange light that's started blinking at me on my laptop. I don't like little orange lights, especially blinky ones, they're usually a bad omen.

The other thing is that I bought some new hair gel today so that I can look all manly groomed for when Marisa gets here, but it's called "Fish!" hair gel. Styling products in general are fairly traumatic for me, and now I've just thrown the whole situation on its head by buying something called "Fish!". Why did I do that?

I also bought Lynx Africa deodorant because the Click one has left me psychologically scarred after the other day.

T - a bit.

Less than a day until Marisa gets here! I can't believe the moment is nearly here! As always though, of course I've had a nightmare trying to wrangle the car off my sister. It's typical, I stay at friend's houses in Leeds 3 times a week so that She can use the car, but the one time I want to use it (even though I've told her at least 2 weeks in advance that I'll need to use it), it's like getting blood from a stone. Actually, that would probably be easier.

So at least I think my room is all ready. I don't know... I've never had to deal with more than 1 pair of shoes in my room before now, and suddenly there's gonna be like 12! I've made as much space as I can, but who knows how much space is enough for that many pairs? I feel like Steve Martin in Cheaper By The Dozen (never ever see that movie). It's a point I'm stressing over probably more than strictly necessary to be honest - maybe I could devise some crazy shoe hanging contraption so that I could keep them on the ceiling or something. But that would mean that Marisa would never be able to reach them. So maybe we could keep the shoes on the floor, and we'll strap ourselves to the ceiling to sleep instead. That might work.

I think I need a nap before work now, otherwise I feel like I'm gonna fall asleep at the wheel on the way to Leeds. Last night was one of those bastard nights where the place is empty until 10pm and then 200 people walk through the door all at once. I thought we were never going to get out of there alive!

Where Is Oliver?: My favourite Podcasts

Where Is Oliver?: My favourite Podcasts

More good reviews for the Ruforia podcast make me a happy bunny. And I didn't even need to use the gun this time :)

More reviews of Ruforia because I'm anal and need my ego massaging sometimes.

It made me think...

Strawberries and Cream Mix CD Case

Here's some pictures of the CD I sent off to Cream for the DJ competition, I thought I'd upload them because I was actually quite chuffed with how the case turned out :)

Maligned Lychees

While I'm in a "stay up late just in case Marisa comes back online so might as well blog" kind of mood, something that happened yesterday and I fell asleep before I could blog about it (and dreamt wierd "picking Marisa up at the airport" kind of dreams): Dad decided it would be a good idea to take me and Alice to a record/CD fair down at Ilkley (in all his "I've changed, look I'm doing things with my kids" wisdom).

I don't know what Dad thought it was going to be like, but it ended up with me going and picking up every Stevie Wonder/Queen LP I could find, and then asking for money for them.

Well if he will offer.

Waste time more productively.

Today, on the day when I really wanted to get started on practicing for the DJ competition, Mum decided it would be a good idea to change the Sky package from sports (which are good for no-one) to Movies (which are truly important in a socio-cultural climate change kind of way). And telling Sky to turn on the Sky+ thingy at the same time, so that we can record stuff.

This was a really bad idea for my whole productivity scene, because it meant I spent the entire day finding things that Marisa might like to watch (or I might like Marisa to watch) when she gets here and telling it to record them. Including but not limited to:

  • Addam's Family Values
  • House
  • Peep Show
  • American Dad
  • Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps
  • Lost
I've discovered that Sky+ is the ultimate in time-wasting technology. Usually when telly watching, there's nothing on at the time you want to watch telly, and conversely all the good stuff is on when you're busy doing actual real life. So if you tell it to record a shit-load of stuff that's good, you can watch it when you have other real-life stuff that you want to put off stuff to do.

Strange tales of sugar manifestation.

Today I was craving something in my diet. After a long and interesting discussion with Hazel the cat, I decided it was sugar. Having only just managed my RDA for the day, I decided it would be wise to "stock up" just in case I missed the mark tomorrow. Next came the laborious task of deciding how best to ingest the sugar. I decided a new and exciting way of injestation was in order, so I concocted a devious recipe involving ice cream and golden syrup. For anyone interested in replicating the experiment, here's the recipe vertabim:

  • Ice Cream
  • Golden Syrup
Just to make things interesting, I decided to zap the resulting mix in the microwave, thinking it would make a vanillaee sludge which I could then administer intravenously to old people, if necessary. Unfortunately my experiment did not work as planned - what actually happened was that whilst the ice cream melted (as expected), the golden syrup, instead of getting softer in the microwave actually absorbed the remaining coldness of the ice cream, making it hard like toffee. Using my spoonular implement to stir the mix post-zap only resulted in a spoonful of hardened golden syrup.

Which I discovered was all I really wanted in the first place. Hazel liked the melted ice cream though.

How to start the day off.

Just when I was thinking everything was fine and dandy, and I was about to leap out of bed in a flurry of motivation and positivity, I sprayed Lynx Click in my eye. Now not only will my eye have the Lynx effect all day, and girls will keep going "Bom Chicka Wow Wow" at it, but it won't be sweaty all day. Just what I've always wanted, non-sweaty eyes.

I found a place where we can boogie...

Great news! I just got the go-ahead from the owners of Fudge! The proposal I sent them was all tickety boo, they didn't want to change anything, which means that we can get started on getting everyone down there!

So here's the date you need to put in your diary for the first Ruforia UK night:

21st June 2007

Tell everyone you know and make sure they keep it free. Remember, if you don't come, you've only got yourself to blame!

More details to follow!

w00t w00t!!!

Umm. Wow! I just had the phone call today! My "Strawberries and Cream" mix I made for the Cream DJ competition has got me through to the heats! I'm sooo excited! So my heat is on 20th May at 8pm, BabyCream, Liverpool. If anyone fancies coming along to support me, I'll guarantee you a boogie lol :)

I still can't believe it!

Ruforia: Daft Punk is Playing at my Wedding

No, don't worry, I'm not changing the Ruforia logo, the Angel of Funk will be keeping his 'fro for a while yet (I'm always touched how much love people have for the Ruforia logo). I just thought I'd give a quick mention to the new mix that I've just put up today. This is the longest mix I've done, but I've tried to keep the quality up! I hope you like it :)

Because the mix is 2 hours long, and I know a lot of people like to burn them to CD, I'm going to split the mix up into two 1 hour mixes and put them on the podcast also, so everyone is happy. That's what Ruforia is all about ;)

Normally my mixes have a story behind them, this one is just about having a good time, and getting some tracks that I've wanted to put into a mix for a long time out there and doing their thing. Yes, I know there's a shameful number of CR2 and Big Love/Soul Love tracks in there, but what are you gonna do about it?

As always, if you regularly enjoy the Ruforia podcast, please consider making a donation - with 15,000 people regularly downloading the podcast now, bandwidth charges are creeping up. You can make a donation here, all donations are handled securely by PayPal.
